Sanford Selected for Pilot Project

Sanford Cancer Center is honored to be chosen as one of only 14 sites to will participate in a three year, nationwide pilot project for the National Cancer Institute (NCI) that will enhance cancer care to patients of the region.

Objectives of the NCI Community Cancer Centers Program (NCCCP):
Increase access to NCI sponsored treatment programs (clinical trials).
Reduce cancer care disparities among underserved populations through education, prevention, screening, treatment and patient-family support programs.
Improve volunteer participation in tissue banking programs to benefit cancer research.
Implement electronic medical records to assist in cancer care and research.

Through participation in this project, Sanford patients will have access to the very latest cancer prevention and treatment advances in the nation. The Sanford Cancer Center recently earned the outstanding achievement award from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons and now NCI has chosen the Center as a pilot site because of its recognized expertise and experience in delivering exceptional cancer care to the region.
