Our Team
The purpose of a child advocacy center (CAC) is to provide a multidisciplinary team approach to allegations of child abuse in a dedicated child friendly setting. Childs Voice is a hospital based CAC located with Sanford Childrens Hospital, and its mission is to provide comprehensive medical evaluations for each and every child brought to the center. The medical team at Childs Voice evaluates approximately 55 children per month in a tri-state region. This team consists of Sanford Childrens pediatricians, Edward Mailloux, MD and Nancy Free, DO, who specialize in the assessment and treatment of child abuse and neglect. Part of the mission is to decrease the number of examinations and interviews that a child must endure. The interview room has video cameras so members of the multidisciplinary team can view the interview while in progress. A mental health counselor is also on staff to help meet the emotional needs of families. Patients are sent home with appropriate medical and counseling referrals, educational materials and an opportunity for advocacy by follow up phone calls from if the family is interested.
