The Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at Mayo Clinic Mayo Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine Residency Program Sanford Children’s Health Research Center at the Burnham Institute for Medical ResearchAccompanying a generous $20 million donation by T. Denny Sanford, a two-campus Sanford Children’s Health Research Center has been established, with one site at Sanford Research in Sioux Falls and the other at the Burnham Institute for Medical Research in La Jolla, CA. Founded as a non-profit medical research institute dedicated to cancer research, the Burnham Institute for Medical Research has grown to a 780 person effort, with an annual operating budget of $113 million, focusing on a host of medical conditions. A dedicated focus on children’s health allows for consolidation of existing research programs involving children’s health and development and growth of new children’s research programs at the Burnham. We believe that this synergy will lead to development of a major international center for discovery and education in children’s health in a matter of years. Scientists, graduate students and postdoctoral trainees will be able use the capabilities of both sites for research endeavors. |
